A student’s journey through BASICSchool begins with choosing a programme suited to their age, interests and goals. Applications are submitted through an online enrolment form, after which the family receives the necessary information about the programme, timetable and start of classes. Where an entrance examination is required, it helps us gain a better understanding of the student’s abilities, artistic sensibility and readiness, so that we can guide them appropriately from the very beginning.
The school year is divided into three semesters, while classes are delivered individually, in groups or through teamwork and project-based learning, depending on the department. Each subject and course has clearly defined content and objectives, while teachers adapt the pace and approach to the individual student or group. Progress is monitored continuously—through regular coursework, practical assignments, projects, performances and examinations—and the assessment method is adapted to the student’s age and type of programme.
Parents and students have access to eSistem, which brings together attendance records, the electronic gradebook, grades, teaching materials, tests, schedules and administrative information in one place. The interactive school calendar provides a timely overview of classes, holidays, make-up lessons and dates of school productions, while achievement and completed programmes are documented through the appropriate records of achievement, certificates and diplomas.
What BASICSchool is best known for begins when learning leaves the classroom. Throughout the year, students take part in concerts, musicals, recording sessions, film, stage and television projects and other public productions. These are not an addition to their education, but its natural continuation: an opportunity for students to apply what they have learned, take responsibility, collaborate with others and experience a complete artistic process. From enrolment to the big stage, BASICSchool operates as an integrated educational and production system that follows each student’s development and gives everything they learn meaning, visibility and real-world value.
1. Experimental Arts Education Unit (EAEU)
Experimental Arts Education Unit (EAEU) offers a contemporary model of music and performing arts education designed for children and young people aged 7 to 17. Rather than following a single predetermined track, students choose between one and five courses each semester according to their interests. Depending on the semester, the course offering may include choir, ballet and musical theatre courses in acting, singing and choreography, as well as composition, music production, film, animation, editing, photography and interdisciplinary courses that combine the arts and technology.
Each course is held twice a week, instruction is bilingual, and groups are limited to a maximum of ten students. Work during each semester culminates in a concrete project presented as a concert, musical, film, exhibition, presentation or television production. After at least two years of education and twelve successfully completed courses, students receive an international diploma in English.
2. Classical Music Department (CMD)
Classical Music Department (CMD) offers classical music education designed for children and young people aged 9 to 17. Students may study solo singing, piano, guitar, violin, cello or flute. The programme is organised into six levels, or grades, with each level comprising one school year divided into three semesters.
Classes in the main subject — an instrument or solo singing — are taught individually, while solfeggio and music theory are taught in groups, in accordance with clearly defined curricula. At the end of each semester, students take examinations and receive a certificate of achievement, while after each completed level they receive an international certificate in English. Upon completing all six levels, students are awarded an international diploma issued by the School.
Students who also wish to obtain national certificates confirming completion of individual grades, or a diploma confirming completion of primary music education in Bosnia and Herzegovina, may do so by passing additional state examinations in all subjects before an expert committee at the end of each level. After completing all six levels, students may apply to enrol in a secondary music school in the same section, provided that they pass the entrance examination.
3. Preschool & Preparatory Division (PPD)
Preschool & Preparatory Division (PPD) offers preschool and preparatory music education for children aged 0 to 8 through four age-appropriate programmes: Music Playroom for children aged 0 to 2, Music Workshop and Ballet School for children aged 3 to 6, and PRELUDINO – My First Instrument for children aged 6 to 8.
Through live music, singing, playing instruments, movement, play and creative tasks, children develop musical, psychomotor and social skills. PRELUDINO combines a group introduction to the fundamentals of solfeggio and music theory with individual lessons in a chosen instrument or solo singing. In this way, PPD supports each child from their first encounter with music to a gradual and confident transition into CMD or suitable EAEU programmes.
4. Extended Day Programme (EDP)
The Extended Day Programme is designed for children aged 3 to 12 and is available from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. through several packages and programmes tailored to the needs of children and their families. We provide a safe, stimulating and carefully structured environment that includes attentive care and supervision, meals and rest, organised play and engaging activities, as well as homework support.
What makes our Extended Day Programme special is that children gain access to age-appropriate versions of the educational and creative programmes for which BASICSchool is known. Through music, singing, movement, performing arts and other creative activities, children discover their interests, develop their abilities and gradually become familiar with the School’s regular educational programmes. The Extended Day Programme is therefore not simply a place where children wait to be collected, but an environment in which they spend their time meaningfully, learn, create and grow.
