November on Stage: BASICSchool Shining at Its Best

The first semester of the 2025/2026 school year at BASICSchool – School of Music and Performing Arts has been marked by an intense and inspiring series of public performances, partnerships, and events throughout November—confirming what we believe in every day: talent, dedication, and the right support lead to results that can be seen—and heard—on major stages and within meaningful communities.

November 8–9, 2025 – The 10th Children’s Fair Jubilee: Music as a Shared Language for Children and Families

At the jubilee 10th Children’s Fair in Skenderija, on November 8, the BASICSchool Choir traditionally opened the festival programme of the largest family-and-children festival in Bosnia and Herzegovina. They performed the Children’s Fair anthem “Like You and Me” (“Kao ti i ja”), written by the school’s founder and director, Đorđe Jovančić, and followed with songs from renowned musicals—“A Million Dreams” and “I Always Wanted A Brother.” For our students, this performance was an opportunity to build confidence, team spirit, and stage maturity, and a moment when music became a shared emotion with the audience.

A special highlight was the performance of our youngest students from the music workshops, who once again delighted everyone with the children’s songs “Dani,” “Lokva,” and “Ljuti pas,” the latter written by the programme leader, Prof. Marija Ivančević-Stipić. The educational community “Muzički vrt,” the kindergarten “Sveta obitelj,” and BASICSchool joined forces to prepare the children carefully and thoughtfully—bringing smiles that naturally spread to the audience as well.

As part of the fair’s programme, soloists from the Classical Music Department (CMD) also took the stage: students from the Solo Singing Department (class of Prof. Mina Petrović) and the Piano Department (class of Prof. Marija Mastilo). Their performances offered the audience a rich cross-section of musical styles and personalities—from contemporary repertoire to stage-demanding numbers—confirming that the CMD programme develops both musical skill and performance confidence.

Across both days, the “BASICSchool Corner” became an unmissable part of the event—quickly turning into one of the most visited spots for fun and engagement. Children joined karaoke sessions and sang on a professional microphone and sound system, with particular excitement around hits inspired by the K-pop Demon Hunters phenomenon. We extend special thanks to our student volunteers and to teacher Mina, as experiences like these allow older students to learn responsibility, support, and togetherness—values just as important as musical knowledge.

November 13, 2025 – ZIRA Scholarships: A Mini Concert as a Sign of Gratitude and Continuity

Just a few days after the Children’s Fair, on November 13, distinguished BASICSchool students performed again—this time at the ceremonial presentation of ZIRA Scholarships from the Zijah Rašidagić Fund, where they presented a mini concert at one of the country’s leading IT companies. In addition to supporting IT professionals, ZIRA has long been a steadfast supporter of music and performing arts education and of students at our school—making this partnership especially meaningful.

The programme featured:

  • Petra Vrebac, a piano student in the class of Prof. Marija Mastilo, a long-term ZIRA scholarship recipient and multiple first-prize winner at national and international piano competitions, performing Bach (Menuet in G Major, BWV Anh. 114).

  • Elena Stipić, a violin student in the class of Prof. Nina Vasić and last year’s ZIRA scholarship recipient, performing “The Infant Paganini” (E. Mollenhauer).

  • Daniyal Mulalić, a violin student in the class of Prof. Nina Vasić, a long-term ZIRA scholarship recipient and multiple first-prize winner at national and international violin competitions, performing “Russian Fantasy” No. 2 (L. Portnof).

  • Blanka Bojić, a solo singing student in the class of Prof. Mina Petrović, last year’s ZIRA scholarship recipient and one of the school’s most promising young performers, presenting “Voilà” (Barbara Pravi).

Moments like these go far beyond formal protocol: they remind students that effort is recognised, and they remind the wider community that investing in young talent leaves a lasting, long-term impact.

November 15, 2025 – A Major Theatre Stage: 120 Years of RKUD “Proleter”

The culmination of this November series took place on November 15 at the National Theatre Sarajevo, during the concert celebrating 120 years of RKUD “Proleter.” As part of the Youth Violinists Ensemble led by Prof. Dr. Emina Smolović, our Violin Department students Elena Stipić, David Stipić, and Daniyal Mulalić—from the class of Prof. Nina Vasić—performed alongside their teacher.

We are proud of their participation and the level of artistry and maturity they demonstrated on one of the country’s most important theatre stages. Special congratulations go to Prof. Nina Vasić for the trust shown, the opportunity provided to the students, and her leading role within the ensemble—because experiences like these represent a powerful step forward in the artistic growth of young musicians.

November 2025 has showcased what BASICSchool builds day by day: a place where talent is nurtured, where children grow through real performance experiences, where responsibility and togetherness are learned, and where partnerships with institutions and companies become a strong foundation for new achievements.

The first semester of the 2025/2026 school year has brought strong momentum—and we continue forward with the same goal: to open the doors of the stage, knowledge, and lifelong confidence to every child.
